Francesco Vanni d'Archirafi
Chairman
Francesco Vanni d’Archirafi is the Chairman of Euroclear Holding and Euroclear SA/NV and member of the Euroclear Compensation, Nomination and Governance Committee.
Prior to his current Euroclear mandates, he enjoyed a 38-year career at Citi. In this capacity, he has substantial experience in leading businesses, boards and committees while based across Europe and the Americas. Francesco’s background spans a range of banking disciplines from corporate finance, capital markets, institutional clients, M&A to cash management, trade finance, custody and securities services.
Francesco currently serves on the Board of Mapfre S.A., where he chairs the Audit Committee. He has been a member of the Board of Mapfre International since 2022. He is also the Chairman of Verti S.p.A.
Moreover, he is a member of the Board and member of the Compensation, Nomination & Governance committee of SS&C Technologies Holdings. In addition, he serves on the Board of the Euroclear Foundation SA/NV, an organisation that targets meaningful societal change for underprivileged youth.
Previously, Francesco served as Chief Executive Officer of Citi Holdings (2013–2018) and Chief Executive Officer of Citi Transaction Services (2009–2013), both based in New York. He also served as Chairman of Citibank Europe plc and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Citibank International plc. He was a member of the boards of LCH Group Holdings (2005–2011), Mapfre International (2002–2017) and Banco Nacional de Mexico S.A. He was Chairman of Junior Achievement Worldwide until 2021 and Emeritus Governor since 2024.
Francesco is currently a Trustee of The Borne Foundation, the Voluntary Solidarity Fund (VSF), the Vatican Foundation Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP), United Way UK and United Way Worldwide. He is a former Trustee of The Felix Project.
On the academic front, Francesco is a member of the International Advisory Board of IESE Business School and Co-Chair of the Advisory Council of the Kogod School of Business at American University.
Francesco holds a Finance degree from the American University in Washington DC where he received the Stanley I.Posner Award as the graduating senior with the highest overall academic average. He has an MBA in Finance and International Business from Columbia University (1983).
