Hong Kong, Brussels, 7 September 2026 – Euroclear is pleased to announce the appointment of James Chang as Chief Executive Officer, Asia Pacific, effective 1 December 2026, following an onboarding period beginning in September.
Based in Hong Kong, James will lead Euroclear’s strategy across Asia Pacific, supporting the continued growth and development of its business in this strategically important region. He will report directly to Valérie Urbain, Chief Executive Officer of Euroclear group, and will join the Group Managing Director community.
James brings more than two decades of leadership experience at PwC in Greater China. He led the firm’s Consulting organisation of more than 2,000 professionals and subsequently headed its Financial Services practice. During his career, he has built trusted relationships with senior executives across the region and a strong network within the financial services industry. Before joining PwC, James held financial roles at JPMorgan and Spear, Leeds & Kellogg, now part of Goldman Sachs.
Valérie Urbain, Chief Executive Officer of Euroclear group, said: “Asia Pacific is a top strategic priority for Euroclear, and James’ appointment marks an important step in the continued development of our business in the region. His extensive leadership experience, deep understanding of financial services and strong relationships across Asia Pacific will help us strengthen our local presence, support our clients and pursue new growth opportunities. I am delighted to welcome James to Euroclear.”
James Chang said: “I am honoured to join Euroclear at an important moment for the company and for Asia Pacific’s capital markets. Euroclear’s trusted role in the global financial ecosystem, its commitment to clients and its ambitions for the region were compelling to me. I look forward to working with colleagues and partners across Asia Pacific to build on the strong foundations already in place and contribute to the next phase of sustainable growth.”
James will succeed Philippe Laurensy, who has decided to retire in mid-2027 after 40 years of service to Euroclear. Philippe has made an exceptional contribution to the company, most recently as Chief Executive Officer, Asia Pacific. His focus on clients, deep market expertise and commitment to Euroclear’s people have helped shape the group’s position in Asia and globally.
To ensure a smooth and orderly transition, Philippe will remain as an adviser to James after the handover until his retirement. This will provide continuity for clients and stakeholders across the Asia Pacific market.
