Euroclear advances Asia’s digital bond market with Hana bank issuance

Brussels, Seoul and Singapore, 23 September 2026 – Hana Bank has successfully issued USD 100 million Digitally Native Note (DNN) on Euroclear’s Digital Financial Market Infrastructure (D-FMI), becoming the first Korean bank to issue a digital bond through Euroclear’s digital issuance platform. The transaction marks a significant step in the development of digital capital markets in Asia and demonstrates growing adoption of blockchain-enabled securities by leading financial institutions.

The issuance is also the first digital bond listed on SGX Group (Singapore Exchange). Standard Chartered supported the transaction overseeing the structuring, execution and distribution of the issue. Citi acted as issuing and paying agent.

Issued directly on Euroclear’s D-FMI, the bond enables same-day settlement while remaining fully connected to the traditional capital markets infrastructure. Euroclear has built a strong track record in digital securities issuances, having launched the first one in 2023 with the World Bank. Since then, Euroclear has facilitated several other digital issuances by a diverse range of leading global and regional financial institutions, including international development finance institutions, multilateral organisations and major commercial banks across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Elodie Norman, Chief Commercial Officer Asia Pacific at Euroclear: "As the first Korean bank to issue a digital bond through Euroclear’s D-FMI, Hana Bank is helping pave the way for broader adoption of digital capital markets in Asia. This transaction combines the efficiency benefits of digitally native issuance with the connectivity, liquidity and investor access offered by established market infrastructures. As adoption accelerates, the ability to bridge digital and traditional markets will be critical to scaling digital securities and unlocking their full potential for issuers and investors alike."

Beomjun Cho, Head of Financial Markets Group at Hana Bank, said: "This issuance marks an important milestone in Hana Bank's broader digital innovation journey. As the first Korean bank to issue digitally native notes on Euroclear's D-FMI, we have demonstrated how new and innovative digital infrastructure can be integrated into established funding programmes while maintaining the security, reliability and accessibility expected by institutional investors. We believe digital capital markets will play an increasingly important role in the future of finance and we remain committed to supporting innovation that enhances efficiency, transparency and connectivity across financial markets."

Ankur Prakash, Head of Digital and Strategic Initiatives, Global Banking, at Standard Chartered: "This transaction is significant because it represents the entry of another major bank treasury into the digital bond market. Each new issuer helps broaden the market, deepen institutional understanding and create new reference points for future adoption. We believe transactions such as this will continue to build familiarity, confidence and capability across the market as digital capital markets evolve."

Dirk Jones, Head of Issuer Services at Citi Services, said, "Citi's role in Hana Bank's landmark issuance reflects the commercial scale we are building in digital debt markets, having supported similar transactions across diverse issuers and markets globally. This first for the Korean financial sector is also a milestone for digital capital markets across Asia. As the adoption of Distributed Ledger Technology continues to reshape how debt is issued and settled, we are committed to supporting our clients through that transition, operating across both traditional and digital financial market infrastructures as the two continue to converge."
