Eric Lombard

Non-executive director, Euroclear

Eric Lombard is a French business leader with extensive experience across banking, insurance and public financial institutions. He was appointed to the Board of Euroclear in June 2026 as a Non-Executive Director, having previously served as a member of the Board.

A graduate of HEC, he began his career at Banque Paribas, where he held various roles in international banking and financial management.  

He joined the French government in 1989 as Technical Adviser and later served as adviser to the Ministers of Justice and of Economy and Finance.

Returning to Paribas in 1993 (later BNP Paribas), he held senior positions in advisory and investment banking before being appointed General Manager and subsequently Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas Cardif in 2004. In 2013, he joined Generali as a member of the Executive Committee, Chief Executive Officer of Generali France, and Chairman of Europ Assistance.

In 2017, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Caisse des Dépôts, while serving as Chairman of Bpifrance and helding board and leadership roles across key French public institutions.

He most recently served as France’s Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty (December 2024 – October 2025). He is currently Chairman of the investment company Halmahera.
