To mark International Women’s Day on 8 March, we asked seven quick questions to Karin Nordh, Head of Operations Financial Institutions, to learn more about her experience and her seven years as a team manager at Euroclear Sweden.
We also wanted to hear how her team keeps our daily flow running, what motivates her, and how we can all contribute to a more inclusive Euroclear Sweden.
Quickfire questions with Karin Nordh, our Head of Operations Financial Institutions, ahead of International Women’s Day
What do you do at work?
My team and I are responsible for ensuring that our daily flow runs safely, efficiently and with high quality. We monitor securities and cash flows and support our participants in all matters related to the settlement process. We hold an operational responsibility for our clients and make sure they receive the level of service they expect.
What is the best thing about Euroclear Sweden?
Without a doubt, it’s the people. I work with highly skilled, committed and caring colleagues. There is a genuine willingness to support one another and take responsibility. I’m very proud of my competent team, it’s a perfect mix in terms of both age and gender balance.
What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of my team, of how we take responsibility together, support each other and deliver even when circumstances change. I’m also proud that my leadership is appreciated.
What are you less proud of?
Patience is not my strongest qualities . I can get a bit frustrated and restless when things move too slowly. I like when things happen and when there’s a bit of action. It’s also the reason why I’m not the one teaching the kids to drive at home.
What can you bring to Euroclear?
I contribute with straightforward and transparent leadership, with a strong focus on collaboration. During my seven years as a team manager at Euroclear Sweden, I’ve realised that my way of leading is guided mainly by instinct and common sense. Less analysis and more action, quite simply!
This year, International Women’s Day invites us to reflect and act under the powerful UN theme: “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.” International Women’s Day is also about both celebration and accelerating change. What does the day mean to you in your leadership?
8 March reminds me that inclusion and gender equality are things we practise every day and not something we should ever take for granted.
One piece of advice for women (and everyone) at the start of their careers?
Dare to take space! Ask for help, and never underestimate social skills - collaboration is essential.
