Brussels/Helsinki/Stockholm, 22 October 2026 - Euroclear today announced that Euroclear Nordics has joined the Capital Markets Track of the Nordic Compass, an industry initiative bringing together key market participants to identify concrete actions that strengthen competitiveness, innovation and resilience across the region.
Euroclear joins Nordic Compass to strengthen capital markets
Euroclear Nordics, which comprises the central securities depositories (CSDs) in Sweden and Finland, will bring expertise in market infrastructure and investment flows, connecting issuers and investors across the region to the alliance. Its membership is aligned to Euroclear’s broader ambition to foster true connectivity and efficiencies by offering one CSD for the Nordic region by 2030, with Denmark currently in development, followed by Norway.
The objective of this collaborative initiative will be to support innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable economic growth. Increased cooperation can help unlock new opportunities for investment and improve access to capital across the region. Euroclear Nordics’ goal will be to remove market frictions and barriers, improving capital mobility and increasing the region’s attractiveness to international investors and issuers.
Euroclear’s membership builds on its long-standing commitment to European market integration and supports the wider ambitions of Europe’s Savings and Investments Union (SIU), which aims to reduce market fragmentation and channel savings into productive investment. Through its network of national CSDs and Euroclear Bank, its international CSD (ICSD), Euroclear connects domestic and international markets, facilitating the movement of securities and capital across borders.
These capabilities will be key in helping markets adapt to evolving demands, including shorter settlement cycles such as T+1 and the development of digital and tokenised financial markets. Innovative technology, harmonised processes and resilient infrastructure will be essential to enabling these changes while maintaining trust and stability.
Hanna Vainio, CEO of Euroclear Nordics, said: “We are extremely pleased to join this collaborative vision. Our ambition is to support the region as its preferred CSD with a one account model, offering a single point of access for all Nordic markets. Through a shared roadmap combining greater harmonisation with the distinctive features of local markets, we aim to simplify post-trade processes, strengthen resilience and deliver a more consistent client experience. Through the Nordic Compass, we will bring regional expertise and broader European perspective to a collective effort to make capital markets more connected, efficient and competitive — helping investment flow more freely across the Nordics and beyond.”
