Day 1 of PostTrade 360° 2026 in Stockholm highlighted Euroclear Nordics' vision for the future of Nordic market infrastructure. In her keynote, Hanna Vainio, CEO of Euroclear Nordics, outlined how the transformation journey is moving from strategy to execution, while Sandra Holmqvist, Nordic Head of Product Strategy and Development, led a discussion on the future of CSD account structures.

Hanna Vainio, CEO of Euroclear Nordics

Taking the stage shortly after the official launch of Euroclear Nordics, Hanna Vainio shared how the organisation is turning strategic ambition into concrete action as it works towards becoming the trusted and preferred Central Securities Depository (CSD) in the Nordic region.

Against a backdrop of geopolitical uncertainty, evolving regulation and growing demand for cross-border investment, Hanna highlighted the need for strong, trusted and future-ready market infrastructure to support confidence, growth and competitiveness across the Nordic and European capital markets.

A central message of the keynote was that Euroclear Nordics has moved beyond planning and into delivery.

"We are no longer only describing the strategy. We are executing it," Hanna said.

The strategy is built around three priorities: One Nordic Platform, One Nordic Growth Ambition and One Nordic Team and Identity. Together, they form the foundation for a more harmonised, resilient and connected Nordic market infrastructure.

Hanna highlighted the roadmap towards a fully operational Nordic CSD platform by 2030, including alignment with TARGET2-Securities (T2S) and the development of a future One Account Model designed to simplify cross-border investing and improve the client experience across Nordic markets.

She also pointed to several important milestones reached during the past year, including the establishment of the Nordic Executive Committee, the launch of the Euroclear Nordics identity and the Riksbank's decision to enter contractual negotiations with the Eurosystem regarding the future use of T2S for settlement in Swedish kronor.

Looking ahead, Hanna outlined Euroclear Nordics' ambition to expand its Nordic footprint, with Denmark identified as the next step from 2027.

Closing her keynote, she emphasised that the transformation is being developed in close partnership with the wider market ecosystem.

"We are building Euroclear Nordics with the market, for the market, combining local strength with Nordic scale and European connectivity."

The discussion explored transparency, different account structures across the Nordic markets and how they can evolve to support increasingly connected capital markets.

"When it comes to CSD account structures and what should come next, focusing on reducing the friction between different account structures is the best approach," said Sandra Holmqvist.
