Roxana - the interview

Job title : Application Analyst

Location : Brussels

Can you tell me more about you and your background?

Originally I come from Romania and moved to Belgium three years ago to work for Euroclear. Given my technical background, with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, I had the opportunity to join the application development division as a programmer. In this role I was coding and testing the code that my team developed.

With the help of the experts in my team I have been working on increasingly complex subjects. In less than one year, my role has progressed and I am now an Application Analyst, which means that I’m responsible for designing IT solutions.

What attracted you to this job and/or to our company?

While I knew next to nothing about the company, I was intrigued to work for an international company in English. More research showed me that I could play a role in helping the financial markets function by developing the IT that underpins Euroclear as a market infrastructure – something that gives me and my colleagues a real sense of purpose.

The fact that no experience was necessary, as extensive on-the-job training was provided, also encouraged me to apply for the job. In my role I have been able to learn more about both the technology and further understand the business.

How would you describe the working environment?

In general, the working environment is very friendly and relaxed. There are also more stressful periods, such as when we launch a new application. But you never feel alone; there is always someone to help you.

I really enjoy working alongside people from around the globe, who have different backgrounds and cultures. There is a real sense of collaboration between people, regardless their nationality, gender, age or experience. It’s a great environment to learn and grow.

I also appreciate the one-to-one meetings that I have with my manager, who provides feedback on my day to day work and coaches me to continuously develop my skills and expertise.

What would you say to any future candidates considering a career at Euroclear?

Maybe you have never heard of Euroclear, but it is a unique place to work, especially in IT. You will be encouraged to grow and learn, and given the resources to do so.

As you develop in your career, you will be given flexibility and support from those around you, in a modern and innovative environment. And you don’t necessarily need to have the experience in your chosen field – Euroclear looks past your CV to your own potential. If you rise to the challenge, you can have a really exciting and satisfying time here.
