Thomas Hansen

Head of Short Term Markets/Securities Finance London Branch, Banco Santander

Thomas has been with Banco Santander since 2019 as head London Branch STM/Sec Finance Trading including responsible for the client franchise in London; Repo, Sec Fin., Structured Prod Finance across all maturities. STM runs Operational Liquidity Management, Short Term funding of the London branch, Deposits, CD issuance, term financing all asset classes and optimise collateral use across the Santander CIB.

Before Santander he spent 19 years at Credit Suisse in various mainly FI trading roles relating to IRS, Bonds , Repo, Collateral, Sec Fin, Liquidity/Capital. He was part of the Global Liquidity Group - his last role was setting up the CS Madrid office as Head of Trading Risk (FI/Equities Cash and Derivatives, Listed Derivatives).

He lead the introduction/build of ISOCO margining at CS, was involved in the initial industry initiatives for Wave 1. He built the CS’s Structured Repo business in 2006 and from that initialised the creation of the Collateral Optimisation function which was responsible for everything collateral related, from managing the collateral, liquidity, pricing, discounting curves and risk management (ran a number of SPV funding vehicle programs) to the approvals of CS’s standards on collateral agreements; ISDA/CSA/GMRA etc and any exceptions. He later built the internal funding desk under Global Liquidity management providing internal funding hedges for different businesses; equity derivatives, fund linked products, investor products, FI structured notes, Strategic Resolution Unit. 

Thomas was a LCH PAG members 2007-2019 and has been involved in many industry initiatives (blockchain, indices, platforms etc). He is involved with the London Money Market Association and has previously been a member of the ICMA ERCC for CS. In 2020 he was re-elected for Banco Santander and currently serves a Co Vice Chair.
