Paul Hurd

Chief Risk Officer - Euroclear

Paul Hurd is the Group Chief Risk Officer and a member of the Euroclear Group Management Committee and Group Executive Committee.

As Group Chief Risk Officer, he has overall responsibility for the oversight of risk taking within the Euroclear Group.

Before his position as CRO, he led Euroclear Bank’s Banking and Network divisions. In this capacity, he had full oversight and responsibility for the bank’s treasury and credit operations and related control functions, as well as the management of EB’s network of links and counterparties.  He was a member of the EB Management Committee and an Executive Director on the EB Board.

Mr Hurd joined Euroclear from GE Capital, where he was the Group Treasurer of GE Capital International Holdings Ltd, comprising the non-US operations of GE Capital.  In this role he was responsible for Treasury, as well as Regulatory Capital and Recovery and Resolution Planning.  Prior to this he served as Managing Director responsible for the oversight of Treasury Risks (market, liquidity, capital and FI and sovereign risks) in the international businesses.

Prior to joining GE Capital, Mr Hurd was Group Treasurer of the Cooperative Bank and the Cooperative Financial Services Group in the UK, a group that included the UK clearing bank, as well as a life insurance and general insurance business.

Before Coop, Mr Hurd spent 12 years working for Standard Chartered Bank in senior roles in Treasury, Markets and Risk, in the UK, Singapore and Thailand, finishing as the Deputy Group Treasurer.

Mr Hurd started his career at the Bank of England, the UK’s central bank, where he was supervisor responsible for the supervision and regulation of a large international banking group, as well as UK branches and subsidiaries of international banks.

Mr Hurd holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Loughborough University of Technology in the UK and an MBA from Henley Business School.
